LIGHTS OVER THE LINE

Every real slot car club has one: a little gantry over the start line with the lights on it and a lap counter someone made out of an old scoreboard. Ours had a checkered line painted on the road and the lights floating in the interface.

Now the lights live on the track. A steel truss stands across the start straight on two posts, just past the line so it never sits over the grid. The start lights hang underneath it, and they go red, red, green with the countdown, all green on GO, then dark once the pack is away.

Two reds. Everyone's revving. Nobody blinks.

GO. The green lasts about as long as the gap at the front.

The board on the gantry counts your laps in little amber digits, says FINAL when you start the last one and FIN once you've taken the flag. Where another bit of track runs right beside the start straight and there's no room for the second post, the gantry becomes a cantilever off the one side that does have room.

These are captures from the native Windows desktop build. The countdown itself hasn't changed: same timing, same beeps, and the big lights at the top of the screen are still there too.
