LIKE SLAY THE SPIRE, BALATRO & HEAT, BUT RACING
SUPER SLOT CAR '98 is a roguelike deckbuilder racing game. You never steer. The race runs in real time, dips into slow motion to deal you a card, and your toy slot car drives whatever build you've drafted. It's free, and the demo runs in your browser.
If you landed here searching for one of the games below, here's how it compares.
IF YOU LIKE SLAY THE SPIRE
Same backbone: short runs, a map that forks, a deck that is your character, and one more draft before bed. The difference is that the fight is a race. Instead of playing cards against a monster's intent, your cards change how the car accelerates, brakes, grips, shields and shunts, and the track tests the build in real time.
IF YOU LIKE BALATRO
Balatro is about small cards that snowball into a ridiculous engine. SUPER SLOT CAR '98 chases the same feeling with per-lap scaling Engine cards, Sponsor builds that turn cash into horsepower, and eleven molten-gold EPICs a whole run can bend around. Fewer poker hands, more pile-ups.
IF YOU LIKE HEAT: PEDAL TO THE METAL
The board game is the direct inspiration. Heat proved racing works as a hand of cards and a push-your-luck gamble. This is a video-game answer to the same craving: real physics and slipstreams, and a deck that carries through a whole championship. It's not an adaptation and has no affiliation with Heat's designers or publisher. The full story →
IF YOU LIKE MICRO MACHINES OR SCALEXTRIC
Top-down toy circuits, thumb-sized cars and plastic track. Ten named rivals with Mega-Drive faces remember every shunt, and a grudge can turn into a one-on-one duel. There's also a Track Builder: draw a loop, press GO and race your own doodle.
